About me
Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, working out how transcription knows when to stop.
My name is Krzysztof Kus. I am a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, in Lidia Vasiljeva’s laboratory, working on how transcription by RNA polymerase II is brought to an end: how the polymerase is released, and how the transcript is processed at its 3’ end.
Before Oxford I was a structural biologist. My PhD, at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência in Portugal, was on how Zα domains recognise Z-DNA and Z-RNA, and before that I read Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
I try to combine the two sides of the work: the molecular biology at the bench and the genomics it produces, TT-seq, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq analysed in Python and R. That combination is what this site is mostly about. Outside the lab I build small electronics projects and read about quantum mechanics and astronomy.
